Paatti Vaidyam

This remedy can be used for both kids and adults

Beetleleaves kashayam /Vethalai Kashyam

Beetle Leaves -1
Crushed ginger -small piece
Black pepper - 1 smal tsp
Tulsi leaves -4 to 5
 Black Jaggery/Panai Vellam -small piece (optional)

Method
Tear the beetle leaves into small pieces and put all the above ingeredients in a small vessel with one tumbler water and boil well till the juice of the beetle leaves or the color of the kashyam turns green in color.Drink the kashyam after a hot cofee/tea which gives immediate relief to cold and cough.For children this kashyam should be given in small quantity.

Ginger/Sukku Cofee/Tea
Drinking ginger cofee /tea /milk also gives good effect to cold and cough.Sukku is widely used in south india and some parts of north india in another name ...its available in all ayurvedic stores but will not be available in pharmacies for sure.

Method
First boil the milk well and drop the crushed ginger to it and boil well add few tsp of coffee/tea and sugar and drink for immediate effect for cold/cough


Oral Application for Cold
Camphor

Hindus worship a holy flame by burning camphor, which forms an important part of many religious ceremonies. Camphor gives the same feeling as menthol and used by indians for religious ceremonies .

First boil a two or three teaspoons of coconut oil in a small wok/pan.Take from stove and put some crushed camphor(Karpooram  in tamil) or karpooravalli to the oil .When the oil is lukewarm apply the oil on nose and chest for relief from cold

Karpooravalli in tamil or indian mint or country borage  or French thyme is plant grown in every indian household its medicinal properties is known for curing for cold.

Method
Take two or three leaves of karpooravalli tear them into small pieces and pour some water in a kadai and boil these leaves and mix it with a tsp of honey and  drink it.For small kids two or three teaspoons can be given

Basil Leaves(Tulsi)
 The same method as above can be used for basil leaves and mixec with a tsp of honey and consumed.
